FAQ

Questions about ReScreen, answered

The things people ask before they buy, and the things they ask afterwards. If yours is not here, the address at the bottom reaches the people who build the app.

What the app does

What ReScreen records, what it edits and what it exports.

Does ReScreen upload my recordings?

No. Capture, editing and export all run on your Mac, and projects are stored as ordinary folders inside your Movies folder. Your account only confirms your plan, and nothing you record is ever part of that.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. Once you have signed in, the app keeps recording without a connection, so a flight or a bad hotel network never locks you out mid-take. It only needs the internet now and then to confirm your plan.

Do I still need a separate video editor?

For most screen recordings, no. Splitting, trimming, ripple deletes, per-section speed, audio mixing, zooms, cursor styling, backgrounds and export up to 4K all live in the app.

Can I buy it once instead of subscribing?

Yes. Alongside the monthly and yearly plans there is a lifetime licence: one payment, no renewal, and it never expires.

Can it record system audio as well as my microphone?

Yes, and as separate tracks. Your voice and the application’s sound are captured independently, so you can set their levels, fade them and clean up your voice without touching the app audio.

What do I need to run it?

macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel. Screen Recording permission is required; Camera, Microphone and Input Monitoring are optional and only enable the features that need them.

Buying and billing

Plans, renewals, the lifetime licence and who takes the payment.

Is there a free version?

No. ReScreen is paid-only: the app shows a sign-in screen until an account with an active plan unlocks recording. In exchange there is no watermark, no time limit and no feature held back for a higher tier.

What happens if my card fails on renewal night?

Nothing immediate. A failed renewal never stops a recording halfway through: update your card and the plan carries on exactly as before.

What happens when I cancel?

Access runs to the end of the period you have paid for and then stops. Your recordings are ordinary files in a folder you own, so they stay exactly where they are.

Can I move my licence to a new Mac?

Yes. Release the old Mac from Settings → Account and sign in on the new one, so replacing a laptop does not mean buying the app again.

Does the lifetime licence really never expire?

Yes. It is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription, and it carries no expiry date at all.

Who handles the payment?

Checkout is handled by Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record. Card details are never seen by the app or by this site.

Privacy and your footage

Where recordings live, and what leaves your Mac.

Can anyone at ReScreen see what I record?

No. There is no server on our side that can receive video, so there is nothing to look at. Capture, editing and export all happen on your Mac, and the files stay in a folder you own.

What does the app actually send to your servers?

Your sign-in, and the question of whether your plan is active. Nothing about what you are recording, which applications are open, or what is on the screen.

Do you use my recordings to train AI models?

No. We never receive a frame of your footage in the first place, so there is nothing of yours to train anything on — now or in any future version.

Can I use it for client work and confidential material?

That is what it was built for: nothing is uploaded, so nothing is exposed by uploading it. You still need to meet your own obligations about what you may capture and who may see it.

Installing and requirements

What it runs on, and where it puts what it makes.

Which Macs can run it?

macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel. The package is universal, so the same download installs the native build for either architecture.

Where do my recordings end up?

In a folder inside ~/Movies by default, as one folder per project. You can change the location in Settings → General; changing it never moves or removes recordings you already made.

Do I need anything else installed?

No. There is no Xcode, Node.js or runtime dependency, and no background service is installed alongside the app.

Your account and your Macs

Passwords, addresses, moving machines and closing the account.

How many Macs does one plan cover?

More than one. The app lists the Macs you are signed in on under Settings → Account, and you can release one at any time to make room for another.

I have forgotten my password. What now?

Choose “Forgot password” on the sign-in screen. We email you a code, you set a new password with it, and the new password signs you out everywhere else.

Can I change the email address on my account?

Yes — write to [email protected] from the address currently on the account and tell us the new one. We move it by hand so that nobody can take an account over by changing where its mail goes.

How do I delete my account?

Email [email protected] from the address on the account and ask. We delete the account and the record of the Macs it was signed in on. Recordings on your own Mac are untouched — they were never ours to remove.

Help and refunds

How to reach a person, and how to get your money back.

How do I get help with something?

Write to [email protected], or use the feedback button in the app. Say which Mac and which macOS version you are on and what you expected to happen — that is usually enough for a real answer first time.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Every plan is covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee: ask within 14 calendar days of the charge, for any reason, and we refund it in full.

What if it does not work properly on my Mac?

Tell us what happened and we will try to fix it. If we cannot fix it for you, we refund you — a recorder that will not record on your machine is not something you should be paying for.

Do you take feature requests?

Yes, and the feedback button in the app is the fastest route. Requests that describe the recording you were trying to make tend to become features; requests that describe a settings screen tend not to.

Still stuck?

One inbox, read by the people who write the code. Tell us which Mac you are on and what you expected to happen, and you will get an answer rather than a ticket number.

Record the next one properly

Install it, hit ⌥⌘R, and watch a take that would normally cost you an evening in a timeline come out finished.
