Every release, and what was in it
ReScreen 0.1.0 is the current build, for macOS 13 Ventura or later on Apple Silicon and Intel. Each entry below describes what the application does after that release, not what we hoped it would do.
0.1.0 — The first release
The whole application, in one build: capture, automatic zoom, a timeline editor and export, all running on your Mac. Universal for Apple Silicon and Intel.
- Recording
- Capture a display, a window, an application or a region you draw, at the resolution the screen really has. Countdown, pause and resume, and desktop icons excluded while you record.
- Camera and audio
- Camera, microphone and system audio captured as independent tracks, with input metering and a preview before you start. External devices and Continuity Camera are offered alongside the built-in ones.
- Smart Zoom
- Clicks, drags and scrolls recorded as events and turned into editable zoom blocks when the take opens. Seven easing modes, configurable phase timings, framing that steers around the camera and stays inside the source.
- Editor
- Split, trim, ripple-delete and set per-section speed on a timeline that opens the moment you stop. Independent audio levels and fades, a high-pass filter, a noise gate, voice levelling, and undo and redo across every edit.
- Canvas
- Landscape, portrait, square and custom canvases with solid, gradient, blurred or imported backgrounds, screen padding, corner radius, border and shadow. Vertical social presets fill the canvas and follow the interaction the recording is about.
- Cursor
- Adjustable cursor size, movement smoothing, idle fade and click effects in a colour you choose, drawn from the real system cursor wherever macOS exposes it.
- Export
- MP4 or MOV, H.264 or HEVC, up to 4K at 30 or 60 FPS. The finished file is published only after the render succeeds, so a failed export never overwrites a good one.
- Reliability
- Recordings are written in recoverable pieces as you go, so a crash or a power loss costs you the last moments rather than the take. An interrupted project is offered back to you the next time the app opens.
- Ready-to-play file
- An ordinary .mp4 is written beside every finished recording without a second encode, so a take can be watched or sent before you have edited anything.
- Privacy
- Capture, editing and export all run on your Mac. Projects are ordinary folders in a location you choose, and no recording is uploaded anywhere.
