Media, metadata and a thumbnail inside a .screenproj folder you can move, back up or open in Finder like anything else.
Private by design
Your screen never leaves your Mac.
Recording, editing and export all happen locally. There is no upload step, because there is nowhere to upload to.
The problem
Screen recordings are the most sensitive video you make: customer data, internal dashboards, an inbox you forgot was open. Most recorders answer that by putting the file in somebody else’s bucket and handing you a link.
What happens instead
ReScreen captures, edits and exports on your machine. Projects are ordinary folders in your Movies folder. Your account confirms your plan and nothing else, and the app keeps recording when you are offline.

What private by design actually does
Works offline
Once you have signed in, a flight or a bad hotel network does not stop you: you keep recording instead of meeting a sign-in wall at altitude.
Recovered, never overwritten
Interrupted projects are recovered with the original files kept, and nothing is deleted automatically.
The account is for your plan
An account exists so the app knows that a plan is active. Your recordings are not part of that conversation and are never sent with it.

Questions about private by design
Why does a local app need an account at all?
To confirm that a plan is active, and nothing else: recordings, projects and exports stay on your Mac and are never sent with it.
What happens to my recordings if I stop paying?
They are files in a folder you own, in ordinary MP4 and MOV containers. They stay where they are and keep opening in anything that plays video.
